Practical Report On Simultaneous Interpretation Of Mo Yan's Speech At The Columbia University World Leaders Foru

This practice report takes the interpreting practice task of "Characters and archetypes in my novels" as the case study.The theme of the speech is "literary character creation".The content of the lecture is closely related to the inspiration source of character creation,characterization and the affection of character archetypes.The speech has a distinctive native language style,but also full of profound local feelings.Based on the three principles of functional Skopos Theory,this paper proposes solutions to the three difficulties in interpreting,namely,loose Chinese source sentences,Chinese modifiers and nouns,hidden social background information and hidden meaning.After interpreting reflection,the reasons of these difficulties are insufficient language skills,incomplete understanding and interpretation of idioms,and limited logical organization ability of the target language.In order to solve the above problems,interpreters use a variety of interpreting techniques,such as free translation,provincial translation,literal translation and additional translation,aiming to improve the quality of the interpreting and achieve the purpose of Chinese culture communication.Through the quality analysis of the target language,interpreters have a deep understanding of the importance of the accuracy and logical coherence of the target language.They hope to improve the quality of the target language by improving the basic quality,and provide references for other interpreters to intentionally adopt the three principles of Skopos Theory to guide interpretation practice,which will help to enrich the training and practice of MTI interpreting professionals.
