Anyue County is located on the eastern edge of Sichuan,at the junction of Sichuan and Chongqing, and its two Xiang dialect islands — "Old Huguang dialect" and "Chenzhou dialect" make it unique in the eastern Sichuan dialect. This study investigates the phonological situation of five dialect points in Anyue, including Yueyang Town,Zhouli Town,Shiban Township,Yulong Township, and Guolong Township, combining dialectal geography, experimental phonetics, and historical comparative linguistics methods to provide a general description of the phonological features of these five dialect points, comparatively analyze the dialectal phonology of Anyue area, explore the historical correspondence between the source dialectal phonology in Anyue, discover the phonological structure of their The method of comparative analysis of the phonological systems of the Anyue dialects is used to explore the historical correspondence between the source dialects in Anyue,to discover the evolution and change of their phonological structures, and to reveal the inheritance and gradual change of Chinese dialects in this region. This paper is divided into six parts. The first part, the introduction, introduces the geography of Anyue County, the history of its establishment, and the results of previous studies on Sichuan Xiang and Anyue dialects. The second part, the phonological system of the dialects of the five townships of Anyue. The phonological systems of Yueyang,Zhouli,Shiban,Yulong and Guolong towns are described at the common time level, and the phonological patterns of each point are organized to analyze their internal phonological differences. The analysis reveals that Zhouli Town and Shiban Township, the representatives of the two Xiang dialect islands, differ significantly from the other three dialect points in terms of vowels and tones: Zhouli Town has apico-postalveolar;voiced initial of Shiban are systematically preserved, and the non-aspirated consonants are more preserved. In the third part, the phonetic tones of the five townships within Anyue County are analyzed. The differences and similarities of the phonological systems of each township within Anyue are compared horizontally;at the same time, the connections between Anyue dialect and the phonological system of Guangyun are compared vertically to reveal their inheritance of the Middle Classical sounds, discover their evolution patterns, and summarize the phonetic evolution. The evolution of vowel characteristics is mainly discussed in the context of vowels, such as the Fei(非)initial group and the Xiao(晓)initial group, the Ni(泥)initial group and the Lai(来)initial group, the Zhi(知)initial group and the Zhuang(庄)initial group, while the evolution of rhyme characteristics is mainly discussed in the context of rhyme with an open ending, rhyme with a nasal ending, and e rhyme with a stop ending.Eventually,it was found that the mixed pronunciation of the Fei(非)initial group and the Xiao(晓)initial group and the Ni(泥)initial group and the Lai(来)initial group were different from those of the other points;the evolution of the“xianshe”(咸摄)and“shanshe”(山摄)registers in Shiban township showed mostly-ie rhymes, different from the-an sounds of the other points. In the fourth part, the three dialects represented in the five townships of Anyue: Yueyang,Zhouli, and Shiban will be compared with the other dialects in question to explore the influence of migration, geographical factors, and other factors on phonology.Firstly, the Yueyang dialect is compared with Chengdu, the representative dialect of the Chengdu-Chongqing area of the Southwest Official Dialect,to explore its development pattern;secondly,we compare Zhouli and Shiban, two dialects of Anyue, with their corresponding historical source dialects,Xiangtan,Shaoyang, and Luxi,to reveal the commonalities and differences of their source dialects, and to analyze the history of Anyue dialects in conjunction with the history of migration. The historical sources of Anyue dialects were analyzed, and the interaction between migration history and language history was explored. It is found that the Xiang features of the two dialect islands are still preserved, but are gradually disappearing. The fifth part is the conclusion.Through the investigation and analysis of the dialects of the five towns in Anyue,we found that the dialects of Anyue County are mostly consistent within each other, and they all belong to the Chengdu-Chongqing area, which has greater similarity with the "Huguang dialect" represented by Chengdu, but the two dialect islands still retain their unique phonetic features, and reveal their unique phonetic phenomena from the perspective of vowels and rhymes. The study of the two dialect islands is a good example of the importance of the study and protection of dialect islands in Sichuan.
