| With the improvement of people’s living standards,tourism has become an indispensable part of people’s daily life.Therefore,in recent years,many books and magazines have emerged in China to introduce tourism attractions.The source text is selected from a tourism text of Genuine Guizhou,Chapter III: A Guide for Visiting Guizhou Villages.This chapter introduces six minority villages in Guizhou.Based on analysis,this text can be classified as tourism literature,with objective language that is easy to understand.The content is informative and publicity-oriented.The author hopes that through this translation practice,foreign readers can gain insight into the rich ethnic culture of China through the exploration of Guizhou’s minority cultures.Tourism text features information function,supplemented by vocative function.Newmark believes that communicative translation is mainly used in the translation of informative and vocative texts.Communicative translation theory emphasizes that the aim of communicative translation is to produce an effect on the target language readers that is as close as possible to that achieved by the readers of the source text.Translators should take into consideration the target language readers’ emotions and accurately convey the original information to ensure the accuracy,fluency,and coherence of the translation.Therefore,this practice starts from the core of communicative translation and analyzes translation cases from different levels such as lexical,syntactic and discourse.First of all,at the vocabulary level,the author uses methods such as literal translation,transliteration with annotations,and free translation with annotations to accurately convey the meaning of cultural-loaded words.Secondly,at the sentence level,the author supplements the referents,subjects,and logical relationships in the sentence by using the method of amplification.In addition,the author explains the core meaning of the sentence through the method of paraphrasing,not limited to the literal correspondence of the source text,but according to the differences between Chinese and English to make appropriate adjustments.Finally,at the discourse level,the author uses various cohesive devices such as verb and noun ellipsis,grammatical connection,and personal reference to achieve coherence and cohesion of the discourse,ensuring the fluency of the translation and meeting the reading habits of the target language readers.Through this translation practice,the author found that the core theory of communicative translation can effectively guide the translation of Genuine Guizhou,and hopes to provide some reference ideas for the English translation of Guizhou’s minority tourism texts,and also to provide some supplementary applications for the theory of communicative translation. |
