| The status and subjectivity of the translator were neglected and forgotten in the field of translation studies until the 1980s,when the "cultural turn" movement emerged in the field of translation studies, which improved the status and subjectivity of the translator. This kind of turn shows that the translator is connected with other communicative activities in the process of translation.Starting from the four steps of George Steiner’s translation theory, this thesis takes the Chinese translation of The Call of the Wild by Liu Rongyue as an example, and analyzes and studies the translator’s subjectivity reflected in the translation process by comparing the original text and the translation. At the same time,it shows that the translator’s subjectivity runs through the whole process of translation and that the translator’s subjectivity is one of the key factors for the success of the translation. The translator’s own educational background, cultural customs, language ability and personal preference,as well as the evaluation and appreciation of the original text, embody the translator’s "trust" in the original text and reflect the translator’s subjectivity;the translator’s cultural background and language ability are the main means of "invading" the translator’s subjectivity; The translator’s subjectivity manifests through the reorganization of the sentence structure of the original text and the "incorporation" of the meaning of the original text; The cultural "compensation"of the original text is the last step of hermeneutics translation theory, and it is also completed by the translator based on the three steps of "trust","invading" and"incorporation",which not only realizes the exchange of ideas and culture, but also does not constitute excessive loss to the original text and seeks a balance between the original text and the translated version by Liu Rongyue.Through the above analysis, the hermeneutic translation theory plays a positive role in guiding translators to exert their subjectivity. From the theoretical perspective of hermeneutics, the selection of the text in The Call of the Wild, the process of text intrusion, language implantation and translation strategy compensation all fully reflect Liu Rongyue’s translator subjectivity. This thesis combines hermeneutic theory with translator subjectivity, enriching the research perspective of the work The Call of the Wild and providing some reference for future related research. |
