| The translation material for this translation practice report is selected from a report entitled Coast Guard Polar Icebreaker Modernization-Background and Issues for Congress issued by the Congressional Research Service of the United States.Based on this material,the author hopes that through this English-Chinese translation practice,systematically report on some problems and solutions in this field that have been encountered abroad,with a view to providing reference for Chinese researchers in relevant fields,and playing a certain positive role in promoting the development of China’s relevant undertakings in the field of polar icebreakers.Based on the high applicability of Translation Variation Theory in the translation of scientific English texts,this paper guided by Translation Variation Theory,focuses on applying Translation Variation Theory to analyze the translation,and analyzes the creative translation variation behaviors of translators who flexibly apply adaptation means to meet certain specific needs.This paper focuses on the case study to analyze the guiding significance of Translation Variation Theory for the translation of scientific English texts.It analyzes the practical application of six different translation variation methods,namely amplification,omission,combination,editing,rewriting,and condensation,in the translation of scientific texts.Finally,this paper summarizes six specific translation techniques at the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence,and paragraph text,such as adding missing information,reducing redundant information,merging related sentences,streamlining and adjusting sentences,changing paragraph forms,and refining paragraph content.The author of this paper thinks that when translating scientific and technological texts,it is necessary to depend on a case by case analysis and select the most appropriate adaptation means.The author hopes that this paper can have certain meaningful reference for the research on how to use specific adaptation means in EST translation. |
