In the 21 st century,as globalization always remains an irresistible trend, all countries in the world is linked together by the topic of economy. It is also of great practical significance to understand the economic and cultural concepts of other countries from economic discourses.Metaphor can act as a bridge for this process and help people understand the emotions, thoughts and values conveyed by the individual writer in economic discourses. Therefore,it is extremely necessary to study the translation strategies of metaphor. The materials used in this translation practice report are selected from the first chapter of Bubbles,Booms and Busts by the American economist Donald Rapp. From the perspective of free economics, the author reveals the essence, causes and evolution of the process from economic bubbles to prosperity and depression.Besides,he uses a few metaphors to explain the relevant economic phenomena. This translation practice report uses cognitive linguistics as the theoretical framework to explore the translation strategies of metaphors according to the similar or different “mapping relationship” between metaphors in the target language and metaphor in the source language respectively. The translator analyzes how to use literal translation, free translation, foreignization or domestication strategies to overcome the difficulties of translating metaphors and realizes that we need to maintain metaphors’ features and cultural characteristics. As a result, the translation text can not only convey the information of the source text, but also can be accepted by the target readers, promoting cultural exchanges.
