| XI Jinping:The Governance of China is a classic political work of the new era in China. The entire book embodies the new governance concept of the Party Central Committee in the new era and showcases the wisdom of China. These wise metaphorical expressions have condensed the long history of China, carried forward the excellent traditions of the Chinese nation, and have high literary research value.Metaphor,as a linguistic phenomenon, has long attracted the attention of scholars. In 2013,renowned American scholar Lakoff explored the connection between cognition and political science in his book Don’t Think of That Elephant, and combined metaphor theory with political language for research, opening up a new field for metaphor research.Afterwards, many scholars have turned their attention to this research field and have achieved fruitful research results. At the same time, the relevance theory proposed by cognitive psychologist Sperber and linguist Wilson provides a new perspective for the understanding of metaphors, and linguist Gutt later applied the relevance theory to translation studies. These research findings provide new ideas for the translation of metaphors. In addition,we found through literature review that the research results on exploring metaphorical translation under the context of relevance theory are relatively limited.Based on this, this article uses the Volume III of XI Jinping:The Governanceof China and the Uyghur translation as the corpus, attempting to explore the issue of Uyghur translation of political discourse from the perspective of relevance theory, and making some beneficial explorations for related research. The full text is divided into four parts. In the first introduction section, the reason for choosing the topic is explained;Current research status at home and abroad;Research significance; The research method, based on the MIP metaphor recognition method proposed by Pragglejaz Group, quantitatively identifies metaphors appearing in text and uses SPSS software to statistically analyze metaphors;Theoretical basis and corpus sources. The second part, based on the thirteen commonly used source domains proposed by cognitive linguist Zoltán K?vecses, extends the conceptual metaphors in the book into thirteen categories: human, war, disease, journey, architecture and construction metaphors. The third part analyzes the translation methods used in the Volume III of XI Jinping:The Governanceof China and explores the use of different translation methods from a macro perspective. The final part is the conclusion of this article,as well as the research shortcomings and prospects.Research has found that from a macro perspective, the book mainly adopts three translation methods: "retention method","substitution method",and "interpretation method".From a micro perspective, most metaphorical types in the Volume III of XI Jinping:The Governanceof China are translated using the "retention method".The translator has repeatedly adopted the "retention method" as the most commonly used translation method.Among them,a large number of "machine metaphors" use the "retention method",while "family metaphors" only use the "retention method" translation method. This is because the two ethnic groups share similarities in regional and historical aspects, share the same cognitive model, and are also the result of harmonious coexistence and unity between the two ethnic groups. |
