| Tan Xiaolin is a pivotal composer,theorist and educator in the history of modern Chinese music.He was the first composer in China to introduce the Hindemith technique to professional music teaching and composition.Many of the students he taught later became the pillars of professional music composition and music education in China,and the Hindemith compositional techniques he brought back have influenced generations of professional musicians with his mentorship.Due to his untimely death,Tan Xiaolin was unable to display his full creative talents,but his compositions nevertheless reflect a more mature philosophy of Music Composition Thinking and harmony.This article focuses on the study and comparison of harmonic techniques in Tan Xiaolin’s works from various periods,which belongs to the field of harmonic studies in composition technology theory.The author uses the techniques of harmonic analysis that he has learnt to analyse and compare the harmonic techniques in Tan Xiaolin’s works of various periods with his teaching experience in the corresponding periods,and to explore the historical significance of Tan Xiaolin to the development of Chinese professional music in the light of his personal experience and the background of his works.The second to fourth chapters present a specific analysis of Tan’s works and a comparative analysis of his works and those of his teachers,in which the use of harmonic techniques and the characteristics of his compositions in different periods are sorted out,as well as the influence of his different experiences as a teacher on his compositions.The final chapter examines Tan’s influence on the composition and teaching of Chinese professional music from the perspective of his composition and teaching,taking into account the evolution of his own harmonic techniques in different periods of composition.As a pioneer in the introduction of Western compositional techniques to professional music composition and teaching in China,Tan Xiaolin was also the first composer in China to combine Hindemith’s modern compositional techniques with elements of Chinese folk music in his compositions,and his compositions are both modern and ethnic,and his unique insights into "modern and traditional" and "Western and ethnic" are of great reference value to future generations in their theoretical research and music composition.The author hopes that this thesis will fill the gap in the field of harmonic techniques in Tan Xiaolin’s research,and also provide Ideas for the problem of "how to use western compositional techniques" faced by composers in their creative practice. |
