Paul Hindemith, the outstanding composer and violist in 20th century, has composed the most works for viola so far which has a very important figure in the repertoire and the performance art of viola.This dissertation consisting from three chapters analyses the music and the interpreting method of Hindemith's solo sonata for viola Op.25 No.1 with a background of the development of the instrument's technique. The first chapter concerns the composer's life and compositions in the history of Music. The second is about the repertoire of viola before the 20th century and Hindemith's viola works, specially the four solo sonatas. The third chapter, as the main part of the dissertation, carefully analyses the music form, tonality structure, composing style and the details of interpretation of each movement of the work with tables. The final chapter concludes Hindemith's attribution to 20th century's viola art.
