Yin Zhan Naxi was a famous literary scholar and thinker of Mongolian origin in the Qing dynasty. His literary output involved poetry, prose and fiction,of which Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting Pavilion are his most famous romance novels. While there have been many fruitful studies on Yin Zhan Naxi’s life and works, there is still much new material to be discovered on the sources and characters of Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting. The purpose of this article is to explore the complex sources of material in Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting, and to examine the ideological content and artistic characteristics of the two novels. The first chapter aims to discuss Yin Zhan Naxi’s life, friendships and works. This chapter proposes to divide Yin Zhan Naxi’s life into four stages, with the ups and downs of his life giving rise to different literary works produced at different times. The second section of this chapter examines Yin Zhan Naxi’s travels through the poetry of his friends, and organises the thesis on the relationship between Yin Zhan Naxi and Ha Sibao. In the section of "Yin Zhan Na Xi and Wang Du Te Na Mu Ji Le",it is found that the poems in Wangdu’s book of poems Ke Chuang Cun Gao also contain "Ten Poems on the West Lake" which are closely related to Qi Hong Ting.In addition, the ending pattern of Ping Shan Leng Yan is found in Yin Zhan Nashi’s novel Yue Juan Ji,and traces of Jing Hua Yuan are glimpsed in Hong Yun Lei.The second chapter aims to explore the sources of the two novels,Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting. The sources of these two novels are complex,as Yin Zhan Naxi notes in his later years and in the preface to Yi Ceng Lou that the novels are ‘sagas of the House of Faithfulness’ and draw on the novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Both novels also draw on a large number of literary works and proverbial allusions, particularly to Chinese fiction.Apart from the more complete results available on the question of the borrowings from the two novels Jing Hua Yuan and Zai Sheng Yuan, there are still many issues that need to be discovered. This article focuses on new material from The Dream of the Red Chamber and its sequels,Chinese literary poetry and prose, and Lian Cheng Bi,Ping Shan Leng Yan,and Cai Zi Jiu Yun Ji.Among them is the first suggestion that Qi Hong Ting has a relationship to Lian Cheng Bi that draws on it.It also corrects some of the assertions already made by the academic community. The third chapter aims to examine the ideological implications of the two novels,Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting.Yin Zhan Naxi was not only a literary scholar but also a famous thinker who incorporated his own thoughts along with his creative work. The first two sections of this chapter reveal four ideological expressions: belief in karma, abandonment of lust, compassion for women’s fate, and the pursuit of marital autonomy. The third section unfolds from the author’s call for the intermingling of Mongolian and Chinese cultures. In addition, the Chapter four aims to analyse the artistic characteristics of the two novels Yi Ceng Lou and Qi Hong Ting. The portrayal of characters and the writing style of "grass and snakes,a thousand miles of fuzzy pulse" are the same loom as Dream of the Red Chamber, but there are also parts of Yin Zhan naxi’s composition that are different from Dream of the Red Chamber. This chapter focuses on three aspects: the various characters, the elegant and harmonious language, and the special writing style that echoes back and forth. On the basis of the main text, thesis collates the references and completes three kinds of compilations: a compilation of Yi Ceng Lou drawing on Chinese literary works,a compilation of Qi Hong Ting drawing on Chinese literary works, and an appendix comparing parts of Yi Ceng Lou with various editions of Dream of the Red Chamber.
