A Practical Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of The "Prevention And Control Of The Coronavirus Pandemic In X City"

This report is based on the author’s bilingual consecutive interpreting practice provided for government officials and inbound passengers from Singapore,Malaysia,Cairo and Dhaka in August 2022.After the task,the author transcribes the recording of her work to review and reflect on the interpreting task,and identifies three main problems in this practice,namely misinterpreting,information loss and improper pauses.From the perspective of Daniel Gill’s Effort Model,the author proposes the corresponding measures in the phases of listening and analysis,note-taking,short-term memory and coordination.Through the case analysis,the author believes that by diversifying listening training materials,summarizing pronunciation rules,improving note-taking skills,strengthening memory training,enhancing encyclopedia knowledge,expanding vocabulary storage and improving psychological qualities and courage,interpreters can enhance their interpreting abilities to achieve more desirable results.Through this consecutive interpreting practice,the author acknowledges areas for personal improvement,and hopes to take this as a lesson to improve her own interpreting skills in the future.Furthermore,the author hopes this report can serve as a reference for other interpreting learners to gain experience in relevant interpreting tasks.
