Edward Hopper(1882-1967),as the most popular realist painter in the 20 th century in the United States,is famous for his plain and realistic style.His works reflect American life in the early 20 th century and embody his unique spiritual qualities.This paper takes Hopper’s painting as the research object,interprets the connotation of poetic spirit,analyzes Hopper’s painting from the perspective of poetic from the background elements,human environment and creation language,and explores the poetic spirit in Hopper’s painting.Hopper’s works are full of spiritual power like poetry,telling the living space and spiritual state of the American people in the 20 th century.His works not only stay in the representational realistic level,but also implied poetic expression.In modern and contemporary art,it is of practical significance to create through the poetic spirit internalized by painters.This affirms the emotional value of painting,makes clear the problem of poetic expression in painting,and also shows that this topic mainly discusses the value of poetic.There is a certain connection between the unique temperament of Hopper’s paintings and the Oriental poetry,which sums up the aesthetic characteristics of his works and is conducive to the creation of modern and contemporary art.Hopper’s paintings continue to influence new age artists and young scholars,not only demonstrating his unique charm in the art world,but also promoting the development of other art forms.
