Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional classroom model of international Chinese teaching has been severely disrupted, and most classes have been shifted from offline to online. However, online teaching poses significant challenges, such as lack of specificity in content, limited student interest in teaching formats, reduced communication and interaction between teachers and students, and lack of a systematic teaching platform. To address these challenges, this paper draws on extensive literature research to explore the concepts of games,gamification,game-based teaching, curriculum activity design, and the theoretical foundations of game-based learning theory, multiple intelligence theory, and immersion theory. We also review the current state of domestic and international research on gamified teaching activities in Chinese as a foreign language.Based on the cognitive characteristics of Chinese younger children, who are typically in the concrete arithmetic stage with concrete-image thinking, limited self-control and self-discipline,and high curiosity,we propose using concrete teaching methods, such as games and music,to increase student engagement. Therefore, gamified classroom activities in Chinese as a foreign language that combine game elements and gamified teaching activities with the principles of interactivity, gradation, relevance, balance, effectiveness, and authenticity are more likely to arouse students’ interest and promote learning. We collected and analyzed cases of gamified classroom activity design for four language skill sections: pinyin, vocabulary memorization, conversation, and writing Chinese characters. We exhaustively analyzed how to design specific game activities by combining five elements: learning situation analysis, game activities, game rules, game props, and evaluation feedback,to explore high-quality and efficient gamified classroom activity design. Our findings suggest that Chinese language teachers can leverage game-based classroom teaching to improve the effectiveness of online Chinese language classroom teaching for young children overseas, while providing a systematic and interesting teaching platform for students to learn Chinese as a foreign language. This approach enhances student motivation and engagement in the learning process, promotes communication and interaction between teachers and students, and enables students to experience the "mind flow" of learning while having fun.
