The Construction Of Documentary Aesthetics In Sports Documentary From The Perspective Of Semiotics

Non-fiction and non-drama are the ontological attributes of documentaries,and the most fundamental trait that distinguishes them from other genres.In their creation,documentary filmmakers should follow the principles of documentary and grasp the true nature of documentary aesthetics in order to return to the original realistic nature of cinema.The emergence of Bazin documentary aesthetic theory,which emphasises the principles of documentary aesthetics such as the authenticity of time and space and the authenticity of narrative style,has transformed Chinese documentaries from formal authenticity to artistic authenticity.This paper will use the author’s graduation work Retired athlete as a model for research,and draw on French film theorist AndréBazin’s documentary aesthetic theory to explore and analyse the documentary aesthetic constructs in Retired athlete.The prolegomenon of this paper focuses on the purpose of the selection,the significance of the selection and the research methodology.In the second chapter,we read a lot of literature and watch related works,sort out related concepts and issues,and define and review the concepts of "sports documentary" and "documentary aesthetic theory".In the third chapter,Bazin’s principles of documentary aesthetics are taken as a starting point,and the documentary aesthetic practice techniques are summarised in a documentary film that is based on the primacy of the object and a visual language that strives for authenticity.The use of live action,candid shots,long takes and simultaneous recordings provide a seamless and aesthetically pleasing combination of the realism of sports documentaries and the authentic presentation of social themes.Chapter 4,the final part of the thesis,is the director’s interpretation,a reflection on the creation of the final work,mainly from the pre-construction stage,the mid-shoot stage and the post-editing stage.
