| The report is based on the C-E translation practice of Chapter 8 in Overview of Chinese Taijiquan written by Yan Shuangjun,a scholar researching on Taijiquan culture.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory put forward by the British translation theorist Newmark,the translator analyzes and solves difficulties in translation practice so as to improve the translation effect and value.The book Overview of Chinese Taijiquan comprehensively summarizes the origin and development of Taijiquan and looks forward to its future prospect,which is helpful to promote the protection,inheritance and spread of Taijiquan.Therefore,it is worth of translating.Chapter 8 describes the development of Taijiquan under the background of safeguarding human intangible cultural heritage,showing efforts made by all walks of life in China to protect and spread Taijiquan.Based on the communicative translation theory,the translator uses translation techniques such as addition,omission,combination and reconstruction to convey information according to target language and its culture,making the target readers understand it and achieving the purpose of communication.The report mainly analyzes problems and solutions in the translation process at lexical,syntactic and textual levels so as to explore the applicability of communicative translation theory in translation practice.It is expected to contribute to the spread overseas of Taijiquan,promoting Chinese excellent traditional culture going abroad.And it is also hoped to provide some references for Taijiquan translation.The report consists of five parts: introduction,theoretical basis,translation process,case analysis and conclusions.It is concluded that the communicative translation theory is of great guiding significance to Taijiquan translation;when translating Taijiquan text,the translator should not only have a solid bilingual foundation,but also understand the cultural connotation of Taijiquan. |
