Adapting to climate change is one of the problems that people worldwide must face and solve. With the development of the economy and the intensification of global climate change, people are affected by the increasing climate risks.Facing the impact of climate change on human production and life, countries around the world are taking active action.Translation in this field is essential in order for all sectors of society to understand climate change and take steps to adapt to it,now and in the future. This paper is a translation report based on Adapting to Climate Change:Markets and the Management of an Uncertain Future written by Matthew E.Kahn—the translator chooses Chapter Two: Daily Quality of Life as the translation material. The source text is a popular science text.According to Peter Newmark’s classification of text categories,it falls under the category of informative text with concise language, rigorous logic, and objective narration. Therefore, guided by the communicative translation strategy proposed by Peter Newmark, the translator uses semantic translation as a supplement and comprehensively utilizes such translation techniques and devices as semantic extension, annotation, conversion, recasting, embedding, splitting, cohesion and coherence from lexical, syntactic and textual levels,so that the translation can effectively convey information and provide readers with smooth, clear, and readable translation. This report analyzes and solves the translation problems encountered by the translator in the actual translation process, intending to provide references for the same type of translation practice in the future.Additionally, the translator hopes to attract more attention to the issue of climate change through this translation.
