In the middle and late of Ming dynasty,because the strong culture of forgery in the field of painting and calligraphy and the prosperous publishing and printing industry in Suzhou.And a group of literary figures represented by Zhang Taijie became fame and fortune by publishing bibliography of painting and calligraphy.Zhang Taijie’s Bao Hui Lu is a collection of fake paintings and calligraphies.There is not the style and composition of the paintings,but enhancing the credibility of the forgeries with fabricated inscriptions of famous artists in order to confuse the people.However,Zhang Taijie’s social status and the idealized interest of the scholar embodied in the book and helped readers build faith in Bao Hui Lu for a while.Until the compilers of the Si Ku Quan Shu had questioned Bao Hui Lu,and some scholars began to doubt the authenticity of the paintings and calligraphy in Bao Hui Lu.Through combing Zhang Taijie’s artistic practice and the typical cases of calligraphy and painting recorded in the Bao Hui Lu,this paper retraces Zhang Taijie’s rash and sloppy antiquarian activities to restore diverse phenomenon of forgeries consumption in the late Ming painting and calligraphy market and expound his views on the art historical status of fake paintings and calligraphy.
