The “seventeen years” period, connecting the two translation booms in the twentieth century, witnessed an unprecedented emphasis on children’s literature’s writing and translation, remaining to be studied systematically. This thesis, based on the published translated children’s literary works, adopts Itamar’s Polysystem Theory to elaborate on how those works fulfill the vacuums of the home children’s literary polysystem and their centripetal motion in the institutionalized translation activities. The results manifest:(1)with the translation motivation contributed by the combination of patronage, poetics, and ideology, translated works keep occupying over 50% before1956;(2)the translated works from mainly the Soviet Union and other socialist countries offer three “national hero” repertoires and two “socialist-realism hero”writing techniques;(3)translated as children’s readings, western classics, and foreign science readings contribute to the balance of ideological indoctrination and universal education for children;(4)the manipulation of translated works is carried on under institutionalized management on both the translators and the presses.
