With the rapid development of China’s economy,The international status of Chinese language is getting higher and higher,and reading,as an important ability of Chinese language proficiency,has received more attention.The proportion of reading comprehension questions in Chinese Proficiency test has reached 37%~50%.This paper analyzes the problems existing in Chinese reading among students at the Confucius Institute of Kenyatta University by investigating their reading situation.The main content of this thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is about the research background,research status and research purpose of this topic.Chapter two mainly introduces the basic information of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University,such as the opening of classes,students,teachers and the use of teaching materials.Chapter Three conducts an online survey on the reading teaching situation of intermediate and senior students in the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University,The students are surveyed in five aspects: reading level,reading habits,reading difficulties,extracurricular reading and reading suggestions.The situation of reading teaching,their own teaching difficulties and suggestions on improving teaching levels are investigated and interviewed,and the survey results are summarized and analyzed.The fourth chapter puts forward relevant teaching suggestions according to the investigation and analysis results.It is hoped that this survey will be helpful to the Teaching of Chinese reading in the Confucius Institute of Kenyatta University.
