Spatial information technology, a useful tool for quantitative analysis, has rapidly applied to Geography research area such as geochemistry, plate tectonics, hydrology, soil erosion, landform, environmental science, which has been one of the most important means in Geography Science research. Remote sensing, Geography Information System, Global Position System help a lot in information collecting and processing, decision making for us. Now RS is the special eye for us to observe the earth. We can get more information than any by RS image of different time, different area, different scale, and different frequency band.With the development of economic and society, the environment and geography research have made a higher demand for spatial information technology development. Besides of the means of information collecting and processing, we should make a big change in the way of geography information spreading. That is, a sharing of spatial information in the whole country is to be realized, including the querying, distributing and processing of RS information on the web.This paper is about the city RS information service infrastructure, which is an important part of a national key scientific and technological project, SIG based system for shanghai city spatial information services. Through studying of the giving means of data sharing and infrastructure building, a new method for information sharing is presented in this paper. It can not only integrate all resource about RS on the network, whatever the resource's location and structure, but also provide the data processing service. It is also open enough for new resources to be added in. RS information service infrastructure is aimed at many departments, so the service in it should be intellectually found and used. To accomplish this task, the research must be executed in an environment of different fields' cooperation.In this article, RS information service is not only the platform for data interchanging, but also the functions platform for distributed data serching, integrating and processing. WebService is the key technology used on building RS information services for its advantage in data and functions sharing. RS information services basedon WebService are functional modules on the Internet, which can be integrated by other applying programs dynamicly.On the grounds of the web system and RS service building demands, four-layer infrastructure for RS information service is raised in this paper. The infrastructure can help the realizing of information getting from the Internet and the reform of data processing. The infrastructure builds an open and cooperative environment for data getting and processing, where users can register their services, find and compare the registered services from the portal based on the simple service catalog.Databse for spatial object knowledge is used in data sharing service so that we can use the spatial object name to find and customize RS data. Spatial attribute of object is described as a serial of coordinates in a specific coordinate system in RS image, and only some geographical name without any quantitative value in people's mind. Databse for spatial object knowledge builds a bridge for these two. It can translate the geographical name into an array of coordinates in a specific coordinate system, that is to say, data finding service can be somewhat natural language understanding. Further, we can customize the RS image by using geographical name to make the image completely equal to the boundary of a specific geographical object.On the basis of RS and other information, the site of Shanghai Green investigation by Remote Sensing is built. It is a practical application of RS information service, which is built to supply different demands for city green information from different level. Ordinary people can get rapid simple data through the site.
