ABSTRACT Research into Working Behavior and Self-aligning Methods of Uniformly Distributed Load of Work Roll Bearing in 2O5OCVC Hot Tandem Mill ABSTRACT 4-h mills, the common type of rolling mills, widely used in plastic working of iron and steel, nonferrous metals. Under the influence of market competition and fulfilling product quality requirements put forward by users, series of new techniques have been developed successfully that are used to raise product quality, reduce production costs. One such technique is work roll bending, introduced in 1930抯. The technique has become an important tool in rolling mills for achieving desired strip profile, gage and surface quality. Nearly all rolling mills are fitted with work roll bending equipment. Since then, load of work roll bearing is increased, loading environment is becoming deteriorative severely, but mill structures and bearing sizes were not changed. And then, service life of work roll bearings is reduced, which turn into large-scale vnlnerable part. Against the rolling bearing in the operating side of 4-h work roll, another side of contradiction, which lead work roll bearing to short service life, big area fatigue flake or burn out, that is, work roll bearing carriers, acted as research subject, and static and dynamic load characteristics of work roll bearing are studied. Research is aimed at 4-h work roll bearing carriers in the operating side for improving load behavior of the bearing and increasing its service reliability, and which seek contradictory another side. First, 4-h work roll system is analyzed with the viewpoint of mechanism. It is found that skewness of work roll journal by the action of bending force leads to inequality radial clearances among each row in work roll bearing, which cause non-uniformly distributed radial and axial load. Proportion of maximum load to minimum load exceeds 3. The behavior is one of main reasons that make work roll bearing damaged. As a consequence, it is important technical path of prolonging service life of work roll bearing that the behavior is reduced or eliminated. Principle of self-aligning uniformly distributed load for work roll bearing in operating side is presented for the first time. Taking 2O5OCVC hot tandem finished mills for example, constraints of work roll chock in operating side are considered, and a linkage mechanism is abstracted from among. Dummy elastic hinge and equivalent mechanism, new concepts introduced in analysis, are used to explain kinenatic relation of work roll system in a state of no-load (remove bending force) and load (apply to bending force) of mills. To make the bearing in operating side having uniformly distributed load characteristics, original work roll system is synthesized again. Under the premise of meeting position requirements, work roll chock in operating side that achieves a necessary freedom can swing together with the skewness of work roll journal, which assure that radial clearance of each row is equivalent and have work roll bearing in operating side obtaining a characteristics of uniformly distributed load.
