Surface quality has a close relation to gear's performance and lifetime. The practical results indicate that improving gear's surface quality can improve its performance and lifetime to a large extent, also can reduce noises to a large extent. Surface finishing can improve gear' s surface quality; consequently increase its performance and lifetime. Along with modern gear industry' s development, hard tooth surface and high precision gears are used prevalently. But at present it is enslaved to higher costs of production and lower productivity, gear finishing on hard tooth surface in our country is applied rarely, so many products can't meet with the demand of use, depress its performance and lifetime. In view of these, it is significant to improve productivity, reduce costs of production, and at the same time develop new gear fishing technologies that have fine performance.Pulse electrochemical finishing is a new kind technology; it has many advantages such as high productivity, low cost and fine surface quality, it will he very significant to apply to important components . Based on home and overseas condition in gear finishing, combining the study's groundwork of nontraditional finishing of DLUT, This paper puts pulse electrochemical finishing into gear tooth surface finishing. In order to improve gear's surface quality, consequently improve its performance and lifetime.The mechanism of Pulse electrochemical finishing is introduced in this paper, its influencing parameter have been studied , including in inter-electrode gap, electric current densitys electrolyte and pulse parameters (pulse frequency, pulse width, and so on). Series conclusions about these influncing parameters to components' precision and surface qulity are founded.The technology of pulse electrochemical finishing in gears is firstly studied. Especially, for hard involutes tooth surface finishing, combining the characteristics of pulse electrochemical finishing with the ways of gear machining, this paper design several projects of gear finishing and select the evolve project of conjugate curves used gear cathode as the testing project. The inter-electrode gap equation is deduced; Experiments have been done on cylindrical gear. The testing results indicate that the technology of pulse electrochemical finishing in gear can lower tooth surface roughness to a large extent:for cylindrical gears (modulus 3 and tooth number 33) in two minutes tooth surface roughness is dropped from Ral.6μm to Ra0.08μm; at the same time the gear precision is improved 1-2 grade.Studying and applying pulse electrochemical gear finishing, one of the key technologies is that it must has high frequency, short pulse and high power supply. Up to now, there is not a proper finalized pulse power supply for it around the world. According to present situation of electric power and electron, a new type of high frequency and high power pulse power supply based on IGBT has been developed. Its frequency can arrive at 20KHz uppermost, it also have digital control function and can be expediently regulated. The pulse power supply has simple makeup and runs steadily and reliably, accord with the conditionsof pulse electrochemical gear finishing.The relative slipping velocity law of pulse electrochemical finishing in gears are studied in the paper. Based on this, an adjustable rotate speed project during pulse electrochemical finishing is advanced. It also designs the control system based on SCM, so this offers an effective measure for improving gear precision and solving the problem of gear modification.All in all, the research in this field will make people realize the relations between surface quality and components' performance;also realize further the characteristics and advantages of nontraditional finishing. It can promote nontraditional finishing's reasearch and application.
