With rapid development of rubber and plastic industry as well as other polymer material industry, the internal mixer is playing a greater and greater role in polymer material production, and there is a higher and higher requirement for the performance of the internal mixer. Especially in recent years, the development and utilization of many new products such as radical wire tire, acrylonitrile butyl rubber tube, raw edge V-belt and rubber oil seal as well as the development of rubber and plastic mixtures deserve perfect function of the internal mixer. This is because the performance of the internal mixer is related to the quality of mixed stock, and also to the performance and longevity of production. The developing of a satisfactory synchronous rotor can deal with the problem .The device is widely accepted as one of the most advanced model of shearing mixer. The synchronous rotor internal mixer has many advantages, that is, strong feed-in, shear, tear, and stretch abilities; good dispersive and distributive mixing results; high dispersion degree of carbon black; good uniformity and a little temperature gap between batch mixed stocks; a short mixing time, high productivity, low consumption of unit energy regardless of a high consumption of power; and adaptation to the mixing and blending of all kinds of formula. If the rotor undergoes a forced cooling action, the synchronous internal mixer is of the same discharge temperature as the asynchronous . In view of the advantages and disadvantages of the synchronous and asynchronous rotor internal mixers , we can see ,the former is far better. Our laboratory is the experimental base of the internal mixer rotor of Chemical Industry Department of China, the author with his colleagues selected two kinds of synchronous rotor to amplify and apply in 50L internal mixer during his doctoral thesis and experiment on the basis of developing the trial synchronous rotor internal mixer. The mixing results proved to be good so as to well meet the custom's need. These two kinds of mixer were appraised as internal initiative ones in 1998 by the Chemical Industry Department and the Science and TechnologyCommittee of Shandong Province, respectively, which considered that the technique met the international standard in 1990's. On the basis of researching and summarizing SOL synchronous rotor internal mixer, the synchronous rotor has been applied to 270L and 370L internal mixer of large volume. 270L internal mixer is being trial-produced at the request of users. Instead, whether at home or abroad, little attention is paid to the systematic study on the mixing mechanism and theory of the synchronous rotor, although the exploration of synchronous rotor is considered seriously. The author deeply understands that owing to the lack of guide from systematic theory, many new technique and products are far from perfect and could not satisfy. What is more important, further development of the key technology is restricted. So the author consulted lots of the technical data, systematically looked into the present situation of mixing theory on the internal mixer, and did much experimental work and penetrating research. The author advanced the theory that the mixing of the synchronous rotor is not same as the asynchronous rotor, explored and established the mixing theory and mechanism based on viscidity flow theory according to the character of the synchronous rotor internal mixer. Also the author did a lot of experiment on X (S) M-1.7 experimental synchronous rotor internal mixer and two kinds of 55L synchronous rotor internal mixer, consulted a number of published articles at home and abroad, then, for the first time, formed four kinds of physical model and the corresponding mathematical model which related to the mixed stock between the mixing chamber side and the top of the rotor wing ,to the mixed stock between the two rotors and to the mixed stock at the various temperatures of the mixing chamber.
