As an important process equipment in mechanical manufacturing, fixture effect product quality and lead-time directly. Shorten fixture design cycle and improving design quality is a very important research field in computer aided tooling, as well as key factor in enhancing enterprise rapid respond ability. Fixture design process is a mechanical structure design problem based on experience, so enough and comprehensive knowledge and experience about design problem are needed for designers. Now available computer aided fixture design systems based on general CAD software environment just can do the following work such as drawing or 3d modeling, but can not provide effective computer aided support technology in fixture design process integration, design resource sharing and intelligentizing, knowledge management and reuse, etc. How to formalize and digitize fixture knowledge which characterized by diversity, complexity, empirical, uncertainness, etc., so as to preserve them in explicit forms and raise the level of intelligence is one of the leading studies in computer aided fixture design system.Supported by the project of national natural science foundation and Sichuan province application foundation, oriented at problems existed in now available computer aided fixture design system, combining knowledge engineering with fixture design process, this research focuses upon the basic principles of fixture design knowledge description, classification, discovery , reuse and knowledge solving technology in intelligent fixture design , so as to explore an intelligent solving technology which can support comprehensively the whole process of fixture design and develop computer aided fixture design support system based on integrated knowledge resource.
