The functionalized polypropylene (PP) with reactive groups has been used extensively as in-situ compatibilizer in polymer blends. The functionalization is usually carried out by grafting polymerization of functional monomers onto the substrate in melt state with organic peroxides as initiator. However, this method has some obvious limitations as follows: uncontrollable reactivity; undesirable side reactions; residual monomer and initiator; the complicated reaction system and environment-unfriendly processing, and so on.In this paper, a novel approach has been developed exclusively for preparing functionalized PP without either peroxide initiator or monomer. The mechanism of it is based on the cleavage of semipinacol end groups on the poly(glycidyl methacrylate)s (PGMA) or the depolymerization of the oligomer derived from α-methylstyrene (AMS). This method is both scientifically significant and industrially important for the preparation of functionalized polypropylene and has been proved being effective. The main contents are as follows:The first part of this investigation is based on the cleavage of semipinacol...
