The cutting force of Sa\ix(Salix psammophila) is the base to evaluate the cutting performance of it. It is the result of the reaction from cutting tools because of the elastic and plastic reformation deformation. It is essential for designing machining device for Salix and has important effects during the machining of Salix. The cutting force is the main foundation for determining the input power of the cutting machines, designing the cutting tools and clamps and designing the machine components. It is also the base of determining the optimal machining process. This thesis investigated the physical performances, the influences of the cutting parameters on cutting forces and cutting quality under the base of wood machining theory. The correlative mathematical models are gained. The purpose to investigate the effecting rules of the tool rake angle, cutting depth and the moisture content of Salix on cutting forces for end-grain section cutting is to seek the technic supports for decreasing the power consume in cutting and advancing the quality of the chips. It is also to provide the scientific supports for developing new chippers and croppers for desert shrub. It would be the theoretic seeds to establish the Method of Physical and Mechanical Performance Tests for Liane and Shrub, a national standard.The study on the physical and mechanical performance of Salix is refer to the national standard "Method of Physical and Mechanical Performance Tests for Wood" to make small samples, and tested on all-purpose mechanical test machine for wood. Signal analysis, high speed CCD video camera, microscope measurement and orthogonal experiment are synthetically applied for the cutting force investigation for Salix. The machining performance test was taken in end-grain section and intergradation section. The data were treated with ANVOA and mathematic regression. Following main results are maintained:The physical properties measured show that compressive strength parallel to grain is 5.8 times to the compressive strength tangential to grain, and 1.1 times to the tension strength parallel to grain. The ratio between the bending strength and compressive strength parallel to grain is 1.6; shearing strength parallel to grain is fewer than other performance; the ratio between tension strength of parallel to grain and compressive strength tangential to grain is about 6.5; The coefficient of variation of each property is less than the average coefficient of...
