This article reviews the tradition of architectural teaching and architecture-history teaching in China. Discussing about teaching goals, course design, teaching methods, teaching materials, course adjustment, and information technology, the article proposes some new concepts on improvement of teaching of Chinese architectural history in the information era. It focuses on the promising computer-assisted instruction(CAI) design. On the basis of analyzing problems lying in the present situation of architecture-history courseware design and courseware design in colleges and universities, the author gives his own opinion on the guiding ideology and the plans of courseware design of Chinese architectural history. The author also makes attempts in the development of internet multimedia courseware, the development of some chapters of the course and the construction of dynamic resource database. The courseware system adopts open structure to make full use of the advantages of the internet. The courseware system is composed of nine sub-systems, including class demonstration, teachers' materials, schoolwork correction and revelation, test questions, discussion, investigation, information searching, bulletin, and teacher administration. Since all the contents can be renewed according to certain situations, the courseware system makes it convenient for teachers to teach and give advice, and facilitates students to teach themselves.
