A Typological Thinking And Analysis Of Contemporary Western Architecture

This thesis makes a research on the architectural typology theory and its design methods,systematically dealing with its effect on the architectural form. On the base of summarizing the origin and the development of typology theory,the thesis mainly sums up the contemporary western architecture involving typology theory in accordance with from Post-Modern to now(from the 1960s to now).It is the key point of the paper that the contemporary western architecture typology may be summarized as two parts:One is the Neo-rational typology who seeking'archetype'from history,and the other is the Neo-regionalism typology who seeking'archetype'from region. From double visual angle of the theory analyzing and practice investigating,the thesis is going to carding carefully the effects on the architectural form which the contemporary western architectural typology made,and approaching deeply its form characters and aesthetic standards,so that we can find something regularly. On the basis of analyzing deeply, the narrow sense of typology in the past is broken through,and the new viewpoint moving towards open generalized architectural typology is raised. The author relates it to the real question of the today's urban construction,in order to find out a new way fitting to our country. The thesis mainly include four parts:The introduction describes the research reality,motive,content,method and procedure. Through the optimization on the aesthetic trends of the contemporary western architecture,it pointed out the importance that thinking rightly of typology and forming an open generalized architectural typology.The upper part summarizes the development of architectural typology from the theory angle. It pointed out that,from generalized sense,so long as the designs involve archetype or include archetype characters,it belongs to the field of architectural typology research. According to the different source of choosing archetype,the research frame can be summed up as two parts: the Neo-rational typology and the Neo-regionalism typology.The downer part dissects the design methods of contemporary western architectural typology from the analytic angle. Through a detailed analyzing of concrete practice,its form characters and aesthetic standards is summarized and its limitations on aesthetic is approached deeply. Lastly,it is concluded that the typology of narrow sense should be conformed and extended,and the open generalized architectural typology should be set up.The part of conclusion is looking forward to the future continue research,pointing out the possibility that the CAAD may use the experience of the typology in information age...
