Most Rapid Prototyping (RP) systems based on Stereolithography (SL) process have the following disadvantages: bulky, expensive, and requiring a large expenditure. So the advanced technology and its system are restricted to be popularized. After acquainting with market requirements, a new RP system, which is small volume and low price, is developed and pushed into the market, even into office and home. It's targeted for the paper. Some underdeveloped theories, such as description of all RP processes in theory, mechanism of solidified resin exposed by UV light, are researched. A new SL material, that is, fiber-resin composites is investigated. The relationship of stress and strain, which lies in the layer and between layers, is deduced based on composites micromechanics theory to explain the reason of part distortion. Some measures are employed to minish distortion and avoid delamination. The accuracy of SL part is also discussed. A new optical subsystem based on optical theories and technologies of SL process is designed. Desktop Rapid Prototyping System (DRPS), which has small volume and low price, is developed. Its structure, function, Parameter Management Database and performance testing are introduced. Above theories and technologies can be applied in other RP processes.
