The desktop FDM rapid prototyping is one branch of the most promising rapid forming technologies, achieving the integration of parts from 3D models to production, is a multi-disciplinary technical leap combined the CAD technology, CNC machining and material technology. Fused deposition modeling is the only rapid prototyping technology not applicable for laser technology, has a the feature of simpleness, concise molding and low cost. When using desktop FDM rapid prototyping machine, different process parameters have a great impact on the part’ surface quality, precision and mechanical properties with the given equipment, it has an important significance to research the process parameters of the desktop FDM rapid prototyping.This paper describes the rapid prototyping technology in various fields, and analyzes the characteristics and forming principle of FDM. Analyzing the influence of 3D model establishment, data processing, equipment, process parameters and post-treatment process to the formed parts’ accuracy.The FDM part’ surface quality is mainly caused by the step effect through experimental study of the influence of the process parameters on the forming surface roughness, forming precision and warpage. Select the layer thickness and forming direction among the parameters to design experimerts to study the impact on molding accuracy. This paper study the warpage caused by the layer thickness as warpage to be the problem of FDM technology.The paper identified the dimersional accuracy of the molding parts as a standard to optimize the process parameters of the desktop FDM machines. Design the orthogonal experiment be determine process parameters which affect the accuracy of the molding parts, and analyze test results to obtain a good combination of process parameters and the influence size them have in three directions X、Y、Z. This paper provides a reference to the high precision parts with the given equipment.
