Stereolithography (SL) is the most widely used Rapid Prototyping technique all over the world, it plays an important role in the product design and evaluation, function test, and quick tooling, etc. The selection of SL process has direct effects on the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of parts, furthermore the popularization and application of the SL. Therefore the research on the SL process is meaningful and valuable. The theoretical research is carried out on the curing mechanism of liquid resin under UV laser, and the relationship between the curing depths, curing width and laser power, scanning speed is presented. Based on these research works, the deformation characteristic and its relation to the process parameters and scanning pattern are studied. Measurements are taken to reduce parts deformation.Recoating technique is critical to the part accuracy and productivity of the SLA system. Based on the analysis research of kinds of recoating techniques, a new recoating technique is advanced and applied in HRPL-I system, which improves the reliability and productivity of recoating action.Stair-step effect is the main cause that deteriorates the surface quality and dimensional accuracy of parts. The relationship between the surface quality, dimensional accuracy and stair-step effect is obtained. Means are presented to reduce the surface roughness, and a method named adaptive beam compensation is put forward, which is used in SLA system and leads to an effective result in parts dimension preserving.
