With the development of high faced rockfill dams, more attention is being paid to the rheology deformation characteristics of the dam body. For the importance of determing rheological parameters and with a fairly difficult in the rheological characteristics of faced rockfill dams, in this paper aims to solve some rheology deformation problems concerning rheological characteristics of faced rockfill dams in practice engineering by developing experimental methods, perfecting theoretical analysis and improving numerical simulation. The paper deals with:1. To forecast stress and deformation properties in concrete faced rockfill dams, summaries and analysis are given to the main mathematic models for finite element method analysis faced rockfill dams. Duncan E-B model and "Nanshui" double yield faced elasto-plastic model are used for analysis of the characteristics of stress and deformation in the faced rockfill dam of Huangshitan.2. Combined with theoretical analysis and experimental results, a rheology model of rockfill is proposed, which can better reflect long-term deformation of the rockfill and is easy to determine parameters using feedback analysis. The model applies to rheological analysis of high faced rockfill dams.3. Parameters of rheology model have been obtained by careful experimental study of the chief materials of the faced rockfill dam in Gongboxia Water Power Station.4. Analysis is conducted on the stress and deformation of the faced rockfill dam of Gongboxia Water Power Station, including their distribution and pattern with and without rheological calculated, and the influence of rockfill rheology on faced and surrounding seams.5. The best optimum model is set up for feedback analysis of rheology model parameters, in which more practical optimum calculating method is adapted.6. A statistic analysis model for the deformation mechanism of rockfill is set up for present lack of the statistic analysis model of observation data of dams. Based on the analysis of occurrence of faced stress and deflection, a statistic model for stress and deflection is established, and verified in engineering.
