In this thesis we first summarize the current vibratory roller technology and its trend, and then describe the research and design of intelligent vibratory roller control system, utilizing mechatronics technology. The thesis describes our work in cutting-edge field of intelligentized construction machinery, and explores techniques for its implementation. The thesis proposes innovative efforts in design of intelligent vibratory roller control system, and application of bus communication, new controllers, density on-line detection techniques, status monitoring and failure diagnoses. In the design of automatic compaction controller, we propose fuzzy control strategy with reverse design for compaction parameters. The proposed fuzzy control rules are based upon fuzzy membership function, established from on-site data. We also propose novel ideas in optimizing the fuzzy control rules, using genetic algorithms. The thesis also describes the efforts in developing intelligent vibratory roller control system software, as well as installation and tuning of hardware and software of this system on the vibratory roller. The conclusions of this thesis are significant in both research and application of domestic intelligent vibratory roller.
