Design for Recyclability (DFR) is one of the most important parts of Green Design (GD). DFR takes the treatment of end-of-life products into consideration at the stage of design, improves the resource utilization efficiency of products and reduces the environmental influence resulted from products with the aim of improving the recycling and reusing efficiency of products and realizing the closed-loop materials flow. With the excess consumption of resources and the deterioration of the environment, DFR is paid more and more attention. Based on the analysis of the research status in quo of DFR, this dissertation does some deeper research work including DFR method, Product Recycling Application Information Model (PRAIM), Product Recycling Process Planning (PRPP), assessment of product recyclability and so on.The PRAIM is the basis of researches on DFR and the analysis of product recycling process. Based on the previous research work of our work team and characteristics of the recycling application, the dissertation puts forward the concept of Recycling Element (RE) that is considered as the basic unit of DFR and products recycling analysis. With the support of information model of the recycling element, the PRAIM based on recycling elements is given as the basis for DFR and PRPP.According to the target of DFR and the concept of RE, the DFR method based on RE is put forward. Based on the primary design plan of the product, the design method of Basic Elements (BE) is given, including the formation of BE, materials selection and the design of BE recycling level. With the concept of recycling compatibility, the design method of Combined Elements (CE) is given to extend the granularity of RE. Aimed at reducing the disassembly difficulty, the design of interface between REs is analyzed. The design result is a set of product design plans based on RE.The product recycling process analysis provides information for the assessment of product design plans, which has great practical significance. With the PRAIM based on RE, the issues of disassembly and treatments of Multi recycling Elements (ME) in the recycling process of products is researched and the emphasis is put on the latter. With the feature theory and the thought of Agent, the method of ME recycling process planning is given. Based on the establishment of assessment indices system of recycling processes, the TOPSIS method is adopted to select the optimum recycling process for ME. The Product Recycling Scheme Tree (PRST) model is put forward to describe the recycling process of products. To select the optimum design plan, the concept of product recyclability with dynamic meanings is put forward. The concept includes the economic benefit and the environmental benefitconsidering the influences of uncertainty factors fully. The assessment model of the product recyclability is given based on the concept of product recyclability. With the information from the PRAIM and the PRST, the selection of the optimum design plan is realized. At last, the DFRS software system is introduced which is developed by our work team with the thought in this dissertation mainly. And the electric kettle is taken as an example to verify the theory and method presented in this dissertation.
