In contrast with the work reported on the shear behavior—— which could be described in a correlation equation of ellipse——of reinforced concrete frame (RCF) columns with the same area of stirrups in directions corresponding to the principal axes of the rectangle section under bilateral horizontal loads, the behavior of RCF columns with different area of stirrups in both principal directions has received little attention. In this study, the shear behavior and mechanism of damage of RCF columns with different area of stirrups in both directions were studied both experimentally and analytically. Firstly, based on test researches, a correlation equation of bilateral shear strength of RCF columns with different area of stirrups under skewed horizontal load was brought forward. Secondly, The Method of Minimal Volume of Used Stirrups, Criterion Analysis Method and Three-Line Segments Method were extended and compared with the new built "Two-Way Shear Reduce Coefficient Method" economically and securely. Thirdly, based on the study of single-way shear capacity theory, a new theory which may be called "Two Way Truss-arch Model" was put forward to explain the two-way shear capacity of RCF and the calculated result shows that this method had a good applicability and useable value. Lastly, the seismic behavior of rectangular RCF columns under skewed horizontal cyclic loading such as the deformability and rigidity degeneration was examined.
