Hill cities and towns are huge in number and covering broad areas of China's territory; and, therefore, take an especially significant strategic position. The exceptive topographies and physiognomies decide the abundant landscape styles and eco-frameworks of these cities. However, owing to the inadequate understanding of the mountain area eco-sphere and the lacking in systematic guidance of mountain urban landscape theories, it is a shame that mounturban landscape construction can not adjust measures to local conditions and then meet the eco-environmental demands of those multi-shaped mountains and hills. The consequence is the so-called"constructive destruction"and"destructive construction,"with the fadeaway of the originally brilliant individualities and the local charms of the mounturban landscapes. Currently, researches into mounturban planning and construction are drawing more and more attention in the academic field and being increasingly pondered by planners and constructors; and, meanwhile, theoretic studies and practical probations into the urban landscape are urgently but formally put into the list of topics for academic discussion, becoming highlighted in all social circles.Mounturban landscape is a science that studies the formation, evolution and characteristics of the mountain city landscape. The paper is divided into three parts (nine chapters) to ponder, analyze and elaborate.The first part starts from the definition of mounturban landscape, covering its connotation and extension, its research objects boundaries, research background and significance, research methodology and framework, its relationship with architecture and urban planning, etc. and bringing forward the establishment of the discipline of mounturban landscape. Through Sci-Tech Novelty Search analysis, it sums up the relevant research trends at home and abroad; and then briefly explains and defines the several key notions, criticizes the current mounturban landscape construction, and points out that the main reasons for the improper landscape construction lie in mechanism, institutional framework and designing.The second part expounds the contents, fabrics, eco-framework and eco-aesthetic ideas of mounturban landscape; and it analyzes the internal mechanisms and the external conditions of mounturban landscape development and changes, the basic characteristics and laws mounturban landscape creation and construction.
