The vertical ship lift in TGP is the world largest vertical ship lift for 113m's maximum lift height, 11,800 tons'coffer weight and 120m×18m×3.5m's effective size of the coffer. Because of its large size and complex work conditions, it is self-evident that theories and technologies involved are very complicated. This dissertation mainly researches into some cruxes of upper chamber head and tower, which are two main components of vertical shiplift, including stability of upper chamber head, stress in construction joints, arrangement of reinforcement in this structure, determination of this type of tower, selection of the design parameters of the tower, etc. The innovations in this dissertation are listed as following: (1) The contact element theory is applied to establish a stress transfer constitutive mode of keys on joints. Based on this mode, a new method for properly analyzing the behaviors of keys is presented. Therefore, it resolves the issue of the influence on integrity of chamber structure caused by separate construction units. (2) Six general calculation modes, concluded in this dissertation, are theoretically based on rigid body limit balance method with proper consideration of the special site geological condition. Those modes resolve the methodology issue of stability of upper chamber head. (3) Analyzing the advantages and shortages of stress graphic method and reinforced concrete finite element method, the author combines those two methods to resolve the problem of non-member concrete structure reinforcement. The author has calculated the steel amounts under every load case, and suggested a prestressed concrete structure scheme. That is the first time for prestressed concrete structure applied in super-massive structure. (4) Considering mechanical behaviors and BOK of the tower, author suggests that it is proper for the tower of vertical shiplift in TGP to choose thin-wall-box structure, also he points out that the top plate should be thin as possible, so as to reduce the mass on top and response of wind vibration and earthquake, provided that the deflection at the center of the top plate is less than the allowable. Meanwhile, the author draws some design principles and parameters for the tower of vertical shiplift in TGP.
