| The medium-and-small historic cities in west China, discussed in this dissertation,can seldom be the focus either of the public's attention, or in the academia. Actuallythey should be considered as a typical research object worthy of more concerns, fortheir tough predicaments both in conserving their urban heritages and in developingthemselves, especially in view of the urbanization procedure and the westerndevelopment in today's China. So researching on their predicaments and trying to findthe way out would be of great value. The dissertation has two parts: actualityresearches and strategy researches.In the first part, based on the analyses of the times background and the review ofthe progress on urban heritage conservation in Europe and China, the dissertationbrings forward the conception of "sustainable conservation" of historic cities, and thensummarize the representative cases, faults, problems as well as some apocalypses fromthe investigation on the spot of the target cities. Then, how to combine theresponsibility of heritage conservation with the goal to advance the city's competitivepower comes to be the core of "sustainable conservation" strategies. Further more, thetransfer, from advantages in historic heritage resources to those in city competitions, isemphasized as one most important tache in such a serial strategies.In the second part, the dissertation discusses the sustainable conservationstrategies from three different viewpoints: 1.It discusses the strategy of "integratinghistoric resource" on the lay of city morphology, which aims to enhance theadvantages of the cities' historic resources by uniting and making fully use of them.Many examples are introduced then, to show various measures of "integration", both inChina and other countries. 2. Referring to the conception of "strategy management",it discusses the strategy of "reformating management mechanism", which aims toget a more powerful guarantee to the conservation of historic cities by bring somereformation and innovation into the former management system and enhancing itsabilities as well as working efficiency consequently. 3. From the view of modernmarketing, the dissertation discusses the strategy of "City Image marketing",declaring the importance of a historic city's image in building up its fascination andactivating its core resources. In the case of the actuality of most medium-and-smallhistoric cities in west China, whose city images have been lack of marketing ability,some analyses and suggestions are given from such aspects as position, characteristic,brand and promotion.Coming from the reality and then returning to it, the research affords somepractical references for those medium-and-small historic cities in west China as well asother cities, within a procedure from finding problems to searching solutions. |
