A Study On The Historic City Renovation Planning Of Neoteric Small And Medium-Sized Cities In Southern Jiangsu

This paper summarized and explained the process and ideological features of historic city renovation planning of neoteric small and medium-sized cities in southern Jiangsu based on a comprehensive comparation and analysis among 15 cities in southern Jiangsu from the perspective of historic city renovation planning, focusing emphatically on the motivation mechanism behind and obtaining methods, characteristics and universality of renovation planning of neoteric cities, whitch would provide reference and basis in future.This paper consists of seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part whitch introduced the background and the origin, the purpose and the meaning, the subjects and the content, research methods and technical route of this study and current research with related topics, thereby determining the overall framework of this study. The second chapter gave a comprehensive introduction of he main geography and development evolution of neoteric small and medium-sized cities in southern Jiangsu and divided the renovation into three historical stages, which are infancy of urban modernization and national industry and commerce (1840～1898), renovation and construction of neoteric cities (1898～1937) and stagnation of renovation and post-war reconstruction (1937～1949), thus integrally combed the process of historic city renovation planning. The third chapter analyzed the contents, relevant ideology and systems and types of historic city renovation planning and elaborated the institutional background and direction of renovation planning. The following three chapters are the core section of this paper, whitch described different renovation direction from the whole to part through a categorical discussion of renovation planning among 15 cities with extensive historical data and charts by comparison, subdivision, illustrate and other methods, recealing its special environmental background and motivation mechanism and pointing out that the renovation planning of traditional small and medium-sized cities was executed through construction of roads and bridges, public facilities and development of modern industry and commerce. The last chapter is a summary of characteristics and motivation mechanism of historic city renovation planning of neoteric small and medium-sized cities in southern Jiangsu, in whitch future research discussed could get inspiration hopefully.
