Flexible assembly system (FAS) is an important part of flexible manufacture system(FMS). The functions of the flexible assembly system (FAS) influence heavily on the quality of products and the efficiency of production. FAS are needed to meet the rapidly changing of the markets and user's demands. This paper study on several important problems of FAS such as: assembly sequences, the framework of the FAS control system, tasks distribution and the modeling of the procession of assembly, detailedly narrated as follows:1. Assembly sequence planAssembly sequences should be arrange deliberately to meet the constraints of geometry, liaison etc. A well sequenced plan leads to high efficiency of assembly procession. Based on SAGA, The paper plan get assembly sequences optimized. Firstly, how to express the relationships of the parts or sub-assembly objects, and how to represent the sequence in which the parts of a product to be assembled by chromosomes are studied. Two kinds of assembly constraints are classified: static constraints and dynamic constraints. And they are dealt at the different steps of SAGA. Traditional SAGA method is modified to meet the need of planning and optimizing the assembly sequences of the parts. Emulating result shows that the method is valid. This study offers some supporting technology for auto-produce assembly sequence for robotic assembly.2. The framework of the FAS control systemA novel framework of control systems of FAS, which based on the federation structure of MAS(FSMAS) ,is designed.
