Knowledge is becoming one of the most valuable resources in modernorganizations. The effective use and sharing of knowledge will support betterdecision-making, faster problem-solving and creation of new information andknowledge. In the future Network Centric Warfare(NCW), it is crucial for victory tocapture and exploit knowledge superiority so as to achieve decision superiority andaction superiority. And C2(Command and Control) organizations are putting moreemphasis on the interaction, sharing and collaboration of knowledge. Then the C2organizations in NCW need an efficient, versatile, integrative, flexible and coordinatedknowledgeservicesmechanism. One of the chief issues in knowledge services research is building appropriateknowledge service models. Based on the knowledge application requirements of C2organizations in NCW, a modeling methodology of knowledge services for C2organizations in NCW(KEMMON) is proposed in the thesis. Studies in the thesis arefocused on: 1) the knowledge requirements andthe knowledge functioning principle inNCW, 2) the knowledge service description model and the task knowledge formalizedmodeling method based on Process Algebra, and 3) the generation method of theknowledge service executable model and the knowledge service flows. The thesis alsostudies the application of the proposed modeling methodology with the case of aerialdefensemissilenetwork-centricoperationasthebackground.Theprimaryworkandcontributionsofthethesisareasfollows:First of all, the knowledge requirements, the knowledge flow model and theknowledge functioning principles in NCW C2 organizations are proposed, and the totalframework of KEMMON is designed. The requirements of C2 for high-qualityknowledge sharing in NCW are analyzed from the aspects of the structure of C2organizations and the different C2 fields in NCW. The knowledge flow vector spacemodel of NCW C2 organizations and the knowledge conversion model are established, which illuminate the dynamic flow and evolvement of knowledge in C2 organizations.Based on these studies, the knowledge functioning model in NCW is proposed forillustrating the functioning principle of knowledge in C2 fields in NCW. Besides, thetypes and conception of knowledge in NCW is analyzed. Then, on the basis of thesestudies, thegeneral frameworkoftheKEMMON methodologyis proposed.Theseworkprovide background and foundation supports for research of modeling and other keytechnologiesofknowledgeservices.Within the KEMMON framework, the knowledge service description model andthetask knowledgeformalizedmodelingmethodbasedonprocessalgebraare proposed, which presents the task-centric modeling idea of knowledge services. The Knowledge Service Description Model(KSDM), including the upper-layered service descriptionmodel and the Multi-Dimension Knowledge Service Contents Model(MDKSCM), isdefined. The MDKSCM consists of the Context Knowledge Model, the DomainKnowledge Model, the Inference Knowledge Model and the Task Knowledge Model.Based onthetheories andmodels of Process Algebra, LOTOS, etc., thetask knowledgeformalized modeling method is proposed, including the meta model, the figuredmodeling denotations, the Task Knowledge Description Language(TKDL) and theformalized description specification. The KSDM integrates multi-perspectivedescription of knowledge according to task knowledge, including static semantics, dynamic semantics, context factors, etc., so that it expressed the contents of knowledgeservices roundly. It also can be compatible with the standards of Web Services so as tofurther define lower-layered service descriptions conveniently and to meet the needs ofservice publishing, discovering and so on in distributed and heterogeneousenvironments. Furthermore, the task-centric modeling idea accords with therequirements of the task-oriented flexible C2 and collaborative decision making inNCWC2organizations.On the basis of formalized models, the task knowledge based executable modelgeneration method of knowledge services and the modeling method of cooperative taskoriented knowledge service flows based on executable model are proposed. Based onthe Object Petri net Description Language(OPDL), the conversion method oftransforming the PA based task knowledge formalized model(TKDL model) into theObject Petri Net based executable model(OPN model) is proposed, including theprimary conversion principle, the model conversion rules and the model conversionalgorithm. Then according to the requirements of NCW C2 organization processes forcooperative task oriented knowledge service flows, the knowledge service compositionmodeling method based on the executable model is proposed. The OPN based C2organization decision process model, the OPN model based knowledge servicecomposition flow modeling method and the validation method of knowledge servicecomposition models are discussed. The generation of the executable model makes theknowledgeservicemodeleasiertounderstand andmaintain, andenablesthesimulation, testing, validation and evaluation of knowledge services. The research of knowledgeservice composition modeling makes knowledge services more adapt to the needs ofcomplicatedtasksinNCWC2organizations,andprovidesintegratedknowledgeserviceguaranteesformembersofC2organizationstocollaborateintasks.The thesis studies the application of the proposed knowledge service modelingmethodology by the modeling case of aerial defense antimissile knowledge services, using the aerial defense missile network-centric operation which embodies the NCWideas as the background. By the analyses and descriptions of the formalized modelingprocess and the executable model generating process of the identify-and-track knowledge service, and the analyses and descriptions of the composition modeling andvalidation process of the identify-and-track service, the interception-guide service andthe result-evaluation service, the modeling processes and the validityof the KEMMONmodeling methodology proposed are illuminated and proved. And the characteristics ofKEMMON and the comparison between KEMMON and related methods aresummarized. The research and achievements of this dissertation will enhance the foundations offurtherstudiesofknowledgeservicestechnologiesandrealizationofknowledgesharingand application in NCW C2 organizations and modern enterprise organizations fromboththeoreticalandpracticalperspectives.
