Uran traffic congestion has become a very difficult problem for the many countries to achieve sustainable development with the progress of urbanization. Most of the researches on the relationship between urban traffic and urban spatial structure in human geography, urban planning, transportation planning and economics etc. were partial and static, without the considering of the dynamic character of the relationship and the change of intensity.Domestic geography researchers has studies on the relationship between urban spatial structure and urban traffic,but urban traffic was mostly analyzed as one of the influencing factor on the evolvement of urban spatial structure. Now, more and more researchers focus on the interaction between urban spatial structure and urban traffic with Chinese fast urbanization, therefore, two inclinations exist: one is studing the mechanism of the interaction, and most of current researches are static and mainly on the influence of urban traffic on urban spatial structure; the other is the study on the transit-oriented development model of urban spatial structure, and the researches are mainly static and macroscopical. As a whole, the researching system is not established with many blank fields, which means lack of the theories for China and deep-hiberarchy studies.This paper puts forward the coupling concept based on domestic and international researches of high connection between urban traffic and urban spatial structure, and tries to study the coupling development model of urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization in dynamic, systemic and synthetic view based on the contemporary geography paradigm by integrated using of the theories and methods of urban geography, urban planning, transportation planning and system science etc. By the analysis of the development model of international relative successful cities,the paper probes into the coupling development model of urban spatial structure and urban traffic for Chinese magacities with Shenyang as the case.This paper includes six chapters.Chapter one introduces the backgrounds and significance, the frameworks and contents, and the methods of the paper.Chapter two concludes two parts. First, it summarizes the concepts of the domestic and international researchers for urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization, and confirms the study field of this paper. Then, the chapter introduces the domestic and international studies on the relationship between urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization and the development model based on the interaction.Chapter three concludes three parts. First, it studies on the evolvement of the patterns of urban spatial structure of international megacities. Second, it analyses the evovlement of the models of urban traffic organization. Last, it analyses the characters of synchronous development of urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization.Chapter four concludes three parts. First, it puts forward the concept, meaning and target of coupling. Second, it expounds the mechanism of coupling and the coupling development patterns, and explains the course of coupling. Last, it summarizes the experiences of the international megacities with successful coupling development of urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization, puts forward the principles of establishing the coupling development pattern of high-density spatial exploration with public traffic organization for megacities, and discusses the evaluation index system of the spatial coupling degree.Chapter five concludes three parts. First, it analyses the characters and trends of the urban spatial structure of Chinese magacities in the era of fast urbanization. Second, it analyses the characters and trends of the urban traffic organization of Chinese magacities in the era of fast urbanization. Last, it studies the coupling development pattern of high-density spatial exploration with public traffic organization for Chinese megacities.Chapter six concludes three parts. First, it explains the reason to choose Shenyang as the typical city to study. Second, it analyses the interaction of Shenyang's urban spatial structure and urban traffic organization and their trends. Last, it discusses Shenyang's coupling development pattern of high-density spatial exploration with public traffic organization.
