Urban Ecological Modernization: Theroy, Methods And Case Study

With the development of modernization, the modern-industrial cities have beenone of the main cause of environment crisis around the world and slumped intodifficulty. So it's necessary to transfer the urban developing mode, which is thedemand of sustainable development. Based on this condition, the article introducesthe main opinions of Ecological Modernization Theory and points out that it isdifferent from the Modernization Theory in the value, the basic policy, the developingaim, the relationship of man and nature and the dynamic mechanism, and so on. So itis a bran-new theory charting a new direction for the modern-industrial cities.Therefore, it's necessary to take urban development under its guidance during rapidlyurbanization in China. Thus this article brings forward that we should integrateEcological Modernization Theory into urban development to establish UrbanEcological Modernization Theory which is indispensable to cities turning into theepoch of ecological civilization.Based on the Ecological Modernization Theory, by induction and deductivemethod in addition to comparing and contrast, the article establishes the frame ofUrban Ecological Modernization Theory under the direction of urban developmentand urban planning including the implications, principles, dynamic mechanism,character and aim of urban ecological modernization in the third part. Firstly, thearticle considers that urban ecological modernization is an inevitable developingphase of modern-industrial cities when they modify the error themselves. Secondly,the article sums up the five principles of urban ecological modernization, such asforestalling principle, suitable principle, diversiform principle, etc. And it analyses theeffect of four impetuses including ecological crisis, technology developing, economicprofit and ecological system. Thirdly, the article conceives that urban form should becompact, urban economy mode should be circulative, urban system should be basedon ecological civilization, city should be harmonious to nature and human being ofcities should be ecological sense, and so on. Fourthly, the article point out that theideality of urban ecological modernization is to make ecocity come true. In the fourth part, using deductive method and the Analytic Hierarchy Process,the article establishes the evaluating-system of urban ecological modernization. Andit probes into the planning and designing method of urban ecological modernizationin three aspects, which is the whole, the constitution and the support of system. Then,the article sums up the concept, the order, the core character of the Planning andDesigning Method of Urban Ecological Modernization. Afterward, it brings forwardthat it is necessary to establish the steering mechanism to promote urban ecologicalmodernization development.At last, using the theory and method of urban ecological modernization foundedin the Third and the Fourth part, the article studies the ecological modernization levelof Taiyuan city and analyses the questions and causes. Then it proposes the suitablegoals and countermeasure. Based on which, it studies the relation of ecologicalfactors and space developing, brings forward the basic mode of the space structure ofTaiyuan city in ecological and spacial respects.
