The dynamic and digital real-time simulation of power system is believed as an indispensable tool for power system planning, protective and control devices designing and testing. With the enlargement in scale of the power system and the development in technology of the computer, the digital real-time simulation system based on general computer gradually replaces the traditional dynamic simulation as its low cost and convenient upgrade. The dynamic and digital real-time simulation systems of power system based on PC and general software have become a significant' research direction. In this thesis, some primary implementation architectures of real-time systems based on PCs and some important technologies of Windows NT/2000 in the real-time applications are researched by means of detailed and in-depth researching and analyzing of the kernel mechanisms of Windows NT/2000, the architecture of Intel x86 processors and the related chipset as well as the peripheral I/O interfacing chips and the other software and hardware mechanisms of computer systems. Furthermore, a dynamic and digital real-time simulation system of power system based on PC and Windows NT/2000 is designed and implemented. In this thesis, the mechanisms causing real-time faults are given. After summarizing the methods of real-time extension about general-purpose operating systems, the research direction of real-time extension is pointed out. Then several general-purpose operating systems real-time extensions are classified and compared, and the main characteristics of these technologies are discussed.PC/Windows systems are being popular in the field of digital real-time simulation, resulting from the advantages of high cost performance ration, powerful development tools and application software supports, fine compatibility and comprehensive users. Because Windows NT/2000 are not open-source operating systems, the technologies such as binary-code level tracing, debugging and reverse engineering of the kernel etc are introduced to study and analyze the kernel mechanisms and architecture of Windows NT/2000. Then the implementation architecture of hard real-time extension based on Windows NT/2000 is put forward. In order to provide split-second timing precision for periodic task, after studying the architecture of Intel x86 processors and the mechanism of Windows interrupt dispatching, the real-time timer interrupt is intercepted and its privilege is improved to the highest of system interrupts by means of directly programming the peripheral I/O interfacing chips instead of changing the HAL of system, which keeping the integrity of Windows NT/2000.With the research of the PE file format, an algorithm for loading digital real-time simulation module of power system based on stack data structures is put forward. By this algorithm, the relocation and the resolution of external quoting for the PE module are resolved.A method for allowing the real-time task developer's program through dynamic link library is presented too. In view of a typical power system simulation prototype, this thesis presents a multiple-module-coupled model fit for real-time digital simulation and establishes its numerical algorithm. Employing this model and algorithm, the normal operation states, the fault operation states and the no-all-phase operation states for the prototype system are simulated. Furthermore, with a real-time simulation model of a nonlinear power transformer, the electromagnetic transient of the inrush phenomenon when the transformer is switched in the null-loaded circuits as well as the process of the normal-loaded state and short-circuit fault between turns state are simulated. The simulation software for the above models and algorithm is programmed. And many simulation experiments are accomplished. The results of these experiments prove that the dynamic and digital real-time simulation system independently designed and implemented based on PC/Windows can be applied to protective replay closed-loop testing. In the finality, the work of the dissertation is summarized and the problems requiring further studies are discussed.
