The Research Of Spatial Cognition And Wayfinding In Building Complex

The author introduced the relevant literature about Spatial Cognition and Wayfinding theories, and summed up the Wayfinding design principles exist already according the actual Wayfingding process.The author brought forward the way of spatial classification based the Spatial Cognition theory, and pointed that Gestalt space can be cognized easily. People can complete Wayfinding task in Gestalt space with enough spatial differentiation. This paper analyzed the spatial feature of building complex, and indicated that "the spatial fluidity" is one of the distinct feature. But, the "the spatial fluidity" can bring the confusion of floor cognition.Then, based on the above conclusions the author investigated the commercial building complex as sample by the method of video, tracking, record, interview and questionnaires. The experiments included: "The relation between the Spatial Cognition and Wayfinding", " The feature in the traffic system of Gestalt space","The helpful effect of familiarity to enhance the users confidence during the Wayfinding progress","The influence of view accessibility to orientate","The relation between the spatial fluidity and the floor cognition","The rules of Wayfinding progress","The influence of the stair position to the Wayfinding decision" and " The close impact on the Spatial cognition among the atrium features". The author tried to text and modify the theories mentioned above according to these experiments. Finally, based on the data the author provided the operable design guidelines about the building complex.
