As we all know, the global view is a total viewpoint of a person to the world (nature, mankind society...etc.), and is the basic reason which decides person's thinking and activity. The appearance view of product design is a designer's expression of global view how to create a design intention. The designer's appearance view again comes to a decision that determines the attitude and methods of a designer how to carry on design, which affects the external appearance quality of the product directly.This thesis is a kind of applied foundation research which belongs to the shape theories and the method in the industrial product design. Appling standpoint of system thesis and related theories of industrial design, the thesis is on the background of mass production, completely at the very first time, carried on putting to order, summarizing and reading to study seven kinds of appearance views of their reason, background, contents and general trend characteristics. The thesis also combines some concrete product design cases, analyzing important functions and influences of appearance views to crate the product external appearance's quality. Summary is as follows:Firstly, with designers putting forward of successively and output time as a basic order of sequence, the thesis investigates and analyzes the appearance views of product design. Including: (1)Taking the product function as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow function"; (2)Taking the market as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow a market";(3)Taking the person's behavior and habit as the appearance view of direction :"the form follow action";(4)Taking the person's emotion as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow emotion";(5)Taking the nature as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow nature";(6)Taking the culture as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow culture";(7)Taking the ecosystem as the appearance view of direction:"the form follow ecology".Secondly, by the help of cases of product design, the thesis studies in detail the five characteristics of tendencies and their correlation in appearance view: (1) The tendency of appearance view and the synchronization of ages; (2) The tendency of stability of appearance view;(3) The tendency of difference appearance of appearance view; (4) The tendency of region and orientation of appearance view; (5) The tendency of comprehensive of appearance view. This text thinks that the relationship of appearance views not only to distinguish between each other, but also contact and overlap mutually. It divides only successively but not of high class or low class. It is impossible for single appearance view to resolve all appearance problems. For solving appearance problems, designers always adopt many angles, multi-lawyerly of method in design practices.Thirdly, the thesis studies the external appearance quality of products. It thinks that the main work of industrial designers is to create high additional external appearance quality for products and designer's appearance view can product important influence on the quality contained in the product external appearances. The ideal product external appearance should at least include five aspects in the appearance quality: (1) Usable quality; (2) Ergonomic quality; (3) Esthetic quality; (4) Cultural quality; (5) Ecosystem quality. Each quality contains some different sub-qualities and appearance views create important influences on the product appearance by these sub- qualities.Finally, this thesis put forward the conclusion and further direction to study according to the above-mentioned research.
