With the rapid economical development, city construction and city competitiveness, Tianjin City has won the most important developing opportunity. The development plan in next 15 years proved by State Department focuses on Binhai District, Bohai economical zone and cities around Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province. In the historic period, renovation of Tianjin city is underway and some aspects are to be changed, such as adjustment of land utilization, improvement of land utilization efficiency, upgrade of city industry, enhancement of comprehensive power. The paper is about improvement of Tianjin city from the angle of city competitiveness. Historical course on city renovation of western countries, our countries and 600-year development of Tianjin from garrison to city is reviewed, and the key problems facing today are raised as basic issues for further research. Various kinds of research methods, such as integration, comparison and ration are applied to analyze competitiveness of Tianjin city and conclude the competitive advantage, disadvantage and potential.The most important part of the research is about rational relationship between city competitiveness and city renovation. Speed competitiveness, construction competitiveness and quality competitiveness are expatiated and target system of Tianjin renovation is reset.The core content and significance of research is strategy of Tianjin city renovation via city competitiveness study. First, cultural concept, economical concept and social concept are to be improved academically; second, existing strategy is studied from the point of adjustment of land utilization structure, and analyzed with new target index system; and last, inspiration for Tianjin renovation on city competitiveness research is explained and renovation strategy is expected.The paper involves different domains, such as economy, culture and society, and several research angles of view, such as study from macroscopically to microscopically, from theory to practice to emphasize the significance and long-term strategy of Tianjin renovation.
