A sequentialair-sucking rice transplanter for air-pruning pot tray grown seedlings suitable toChina's situation was studied pioneerly by combining sequential transplantingand shallow broadcasting, using air-pruning pot seedling technology of tobacco inAmerica and mechanical transplanting mode of rice in Japan.Rice is a kind of most important foodstuff being planted about 33 millionhm2, which accounts for 34 % of total area and 44 % of total output of grainplanting in China. Because the price of maize, Soya and wheat is higher than thatin world market while the price of rice is lower, there will be more benefits forChinese farmers who plant rice after China's joining WTO. The mechanization ofrice planting is becoming the most important subject in China because of theshort season and the hard work in rice planting. Although rice transplanter hasbeen studied for nearly 50 years, only 3.96% of rice is planted by machine inChina. Therefore, it is important to study the history and present condition ofrice-planting mechanization at home and abroad and develop rice-plantingmachine suitable for china's situation.This paper discussed the history and the present condition of ricetransplanter's studies in China, Japan and Korea, analyzed the situation ofdeveloping rice planting machine in China, put forward the technique strategy todevelop rice planted machine in China, decided the rice planted mode ofcombining sequential transplanting and shallow broadcasting to transplant rice insequence in north China and the principle of developing sequential air-suckingrice transplanter for air-pruning pot tray grown seedlings. According to thesituation of constant drought for many years in North China and the needs toplant rice saving water and of spare tillage & energy conservancy, a kind ofmethod of transplanting rice seedlings in paddy field which was tilled shallowerand was not harrowed was put forward based on the analysis about various tillageand transplanting techniques (such as non-tillage transplanting, non-harrowingtransplanting, partial tillage and transplanting at the same time, shallower andpartial deep tillage transplanting, shallower tillage and non-harrowingtransplanting etc). The transplanting method can either save water or cut downenergy consume and resource waste by entering paddy field for few time that issuit for the situation in North-China. A detachable paddy field boat and drivingwheels used both in transplanting and transporting were developed so that theproblems of jamming mud and running indirectly can be solved.
