Alfalfa has been had a great play in sustainable agriculture for long time.China has been engaging in alfalfa industrialization from 1996. There are some favorable factors such as high national and international market potential for alfalfa products, high profit from alfalfa production, government official' and businessman' great interest in alfalfa and many researches closely combing with alfalfa production. And there are some unfavorable factors such as market and nature risks, small amount of alfalfa production, low quality of alfalfa products, low mechanization for alfalfa production, high transportation cost of alfalfa' hay and meat, few alfalfa cultivars and small amount of seed of the good cultivars. The dry region of the central and western China is favorable for alfalfal industrialization by analzing natural conditions, local culture and alfalfa adeptation. It is necessary to increase alfalfa area in large scale, engage local people in alfalfa production, combine alfalfa markets with scatted alfalfa production by broker organizations and establish a valid service system in order to accomplish alfalfa industrialization in China.National alfalfa cultivars such as Baoding and external alfalfa cultivars such as Baralfa 54, WL320 and WL323 can be widespreadly used to establish alfalfa stands in Beijing. And the national cultivars such as Baoding and Zhongmu No.1, and the external cultivars such as Baralfa 54, WL320, WL323, Egypt, Petu and Anstar can be used in the southern Shanxi Provice. The experiment showed that the stickier the soil and the deeper seeding depth were the lower the emergence rate, especially in early emerging dates. Heavy rainfall could greatly decrease alfalfa emergence rate after seeding.Alfalfa growth and nutrients were shown obvious dynamics from the shout emergence in spring to full bloom in early summer. The height and yield of alfalfa could be described by logistic models, the content of crude protein of dry alfalfa by negatively linear model, the content of crude fiber by positively linear model, the yield of crude protein by quadratic model. The later bud of alfalfa is recommend the most favorable harvest schedule by considering the yield and content of crude protein of alfalfa.Alfalfa is directly contributed to increasing succeeding crops'yields and improving their quality by accumulating N, P, K and organic matter in alfalfa roor and in soil in alfalfa-crop rotation. Alfalfa can decrease weeds in the rotation, which is indirectly related to increasing the succeeding crops' yields.
