Study On Situation And Development Strategies Of Industrialization Of Orchid Resources In Hainan

Orchid resources are the base of orchid industry development. Orchid industry development relies on orchid resources protection and utilization. Otherwise, orchid industrial development can promote better orchid resources protection and utilization. Therefore, the focus of this study is that, combined with field survey and data collection, we analysed the status of wild orchid resources, its protection and utilization in Hainan. Based on the situation of orchid industry, scientific strategies to protect the wild orchid resources and industry development are setted.The results showed that:1. Hainan is one of the most important diversity centers in orchid flora, with 89genera and 250 species (including infraspecific taxon). There are 32 species endemic to China, including 14 species endemic to Hainan.45 genera with 127 species are epiphytic in this flora,43 (85 species) ones terrestrial and 5 (6 species) ones saprophytic.2. The geographic distribution of wild orchids in Hainan is uneven, concentrating in the south and central-western regions of Hainan at county level.3. The range of vertical distribution for wild orchids is pretty wide, but mainly distributed in lower and middle mountains with elevation from 500m to 12000m, with totally 189 species, accounting for 84% in total species in China. The pattern of wild orchids is of unimodal along elevation gradient.4. Orchid resurces are threatened very seriously in Hainan and many species are endangerd because of the lacking of corresponding legal measures and conservation strategies for effective protection. Our evaluation results showed that:The protection need to focus on the orchid resources in Hainan.5. SWOT analysis results show that, although Hainan has advantages of climate, resource, policy, etc, but Hainan’s orchid industry has the following problems:small cultivate dimensions, low specialization level, the lack of effective organization and coordination, laging infrastructure builds, low technical level of management, etc.6. Survey of Hainan flower market shows that:Compared with ordinary commercial flowers, more than 83% of consumers are more like consuming tropical orchids consumptions in Hainan, mainly with potting orchids as a form of consumption.7. Making the Oncidium Cutting-flower and Medicinal Dendrobium industrialization as examples, we analysed their project feasibility and benefit. The results showed that:Hainan is fully equipped with the conditions for the development of Oncidium Cutting-flower and Medicinal Dendrobium production. Oncidium Cutting-flower and Medicinal Dendrobium industrialization project have good economic benefit, social benefit and economic benefit.
